What is Zyrtec?
Zyrtec contains Cetirizine and Pseudoephedrine.
Zyrtex is used to treat nasal and non-nasal symptoms associated
with allergies.
Cetirizine is an antihistamine. It blocks the effects of the
naturally occurring histamine in the body.
Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant. It constricts (shrinks) blood
vessels (veins and arteries) which decreases swelling and allows nasal
passages to open up.
Cautions Regarding Zyrtec
Use caution when driving, operating machinery, or performing other
hazardous activities. Zyrtec may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If you
experience dizziness or drowsiness, avoid these activities.
Use alcohol cautiously. Alcohol may increase drowsiness and
dizziness during treatment with Zyrtec.
Do not take Zyrtec if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor
(MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), or
tranylcypromine (Parnate) in the last 14 days. A dangerous drug
interaction could occur, leading to serious side effects.
If you are over 65 years of age, you may be more likely to
experience side effects from Zyrtec. Your doctor may prescribe a lower
dose of this medication.
Do not take Zyrtec without first talking to your doctor if you are
pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment or are breast
feeding.
